I started looking for gulls at the south end of Walney while walking the dog (multi-tasking) but not a thing so headed for Rampside. The freshwater outflow at Roosebeck was teeming with Gulls, the light was excellent the only downside was the Gulls were all quite distant and the beach was full of bloody dogwalkers. After about 45 mins best thing was a second year Med gull, offshore were 3 Red Throated Divers, 9 Great Crested Grebes and loads of Eiders. The birds were disturbed again and were to far away so time for a change of scenery.
The local farming scumunity when not flailing hedgerows into oblivion, killing everything with a hooked beak or fur spend their time covering the countryside in shite, which the vermin they spend most of their time trying to kill actually like, meaning the fields are full of gulls.
I pulled the car into the layby by the two deserted houses on Rampside Rd just as a white winged beauty drifted overhead. An adult Iceland Gull a ghostly white vision, you beauty. It got better, amongst the seething mass of gulls and corvids were a 2nd winter Med Gull and a cracking 1st winter Med Gull sporting a green colour ring that I wasn't able to read and then they were gone moving to a field that I was unable to view.
Roy re-located the 1st winter Glacous at Baycliff yesterday, there was a Glaucous Gull at Ormsgill resr at the weekend and now a Iceland at Rampside it's not Shetland standard but it's not bad. Looking forward to tomorrow.
