Jinack Island is an awesome birding spot and would surely reward more exploration, I barely scratched the surface. The locals are really friendly without being the pain in the arse bumsters you get around Kotu area.
The accommodation is adequate but it ain't no 5 star. The food is Gambian really good if you avoid fish, and the team of lads and lasses at the lodge are brilliant. Go if you get the chance.
After the crossing back to Banjul I was birding around the harbour from the cafe when iIwas approached by a guy who quickly flashed an i.d.card and told me " if I continued to take pictures he would and could confiscate my camera ". I briefly protested then decided best to shut up and just go along with it. While waiting for the crossing over to Jinack I'd spent about an hour birding from this cafe while chatting to officers from the Gambian Army and Navy and they never said a word so what was that about?
