Started the day with some stealth birding in Bardsea Wood in preparation for the forests of Goa later in the year. By moving with a catlike grace barely breathing and blending in with the foilage I was rewarded with fine views of Great Spotted Woodpecker, Mistle Thrush, Blue, Great and Long-tailed Tit, Nuthatch and Jay; Willow Warbler, Chiff Chaff, Blackcap and Wren were still singing and a Buzzard flew over.
A Green Sandpiper was at Edge Hill pond near Croftlands estate and I learnt of the first returning Little Egret of the year on the 19th of this month.
It would seem that my count of 60 eiderlings yesterday was well short of the peak count this year with 190 birds recorded a couple of weeks ago and is described as an average year.
An evening scan of the Gull flocks this evening turned the first passage Med Gull of the summer a fine looking adultish bird sporting a white/pale blue colour ring that wasn't possible to read.
